Africa is an unfortunate continent which has produced some of the world’s worst military dictators, brutes and rascals in military uniform. These megalomaniac dictators shared the same characteristics with their forbears ; the likes of Adolf Hitler of Germany, Italy’s Benito Mussolini, Russia’s Joseph Stalin and a host of others. The likes of Zaire Mobutu Sese Zeko; Jean Bedel Bokassa the Cannibal of Bangui, Central African Republic; Jafar Nimieri of Sudan; Idi Amin Dada, the Butcher of Kampala, Uganda; Gnassingbe Eyadema of Togo, Master Sergeant Samuel Kanyon Doe of Liberia and numerous tea pot dictators Africa has ever seen. Some of these dictators have gone to where they rightly belong, the wraiths of some are still haunting the miserable land and hapless people they left behind while public resistance, demonstrations and even wars from Africans driven some of these evil men into exile or their ignominious demise. Early in his evil reign and dictatorship, the former drug peddler-turned military rule of Nigeria, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida befriended two of these political ogres: Eyadema of Togo and Doe of Liberia.

General Eyadema of Togo was the first military man to stage a coup against a democratically-elected president in the West African sub-region following in the footsteps of General Abdel Gamar Nassar of Egypt who staged Africa’s first military coup in 1952. Eyadema, then a military sergeant killed President Sylvanus Olympio, the democratically-elected President of newly independent Togo in the mid-1960s. Ever since…………………
