The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Southwest has described the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi’s N2.2 billion new government house project as unreasonable, saying; “Fayemi is running Ekiti State like a prodigal governor.”
Zonal Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon. Kayode Babade said in a statement issued today that “only a wasteful and irresponsible government would embark on construction of a new government house with borrowed fund.”
The party said it was appalling that a governor would go to the capital market to raise bond to build government house, a project that does not have any economic benefit to the State and its people.
“It is as if the comedy of errors foisted on Ekiti State by the Salamic judgment has gotten to its peak now.
“This is because it is either Fayemi is demolishing houses and shops to pave way for planting of flowers, running after teachers for competency test, commissioning distribution of ‘graduation gowns’ to primary schools, visiting public schools to flag-off renovation (painting) of schools or flagging off construction of a new government house with borrowed N2.2 billion.
“Whereas, in Ekiti State under Fayemi and his ACN, poverty-related diseases such as cholera still kill the people with impunity and already established and functioning universities were scrapped under the excuse that the State could not fund more than one university.
“Yet, the same Fayemi is spending part of the N22 billion loan he took to build a new Govt House!
“Our questions are: what is wrong with the government house being used now? What is the economic benefit of a new Govt House to the downtrodden people of Ekiti State? How many jobs is the N2.2 billion to be spent on this ill-conceived project going to create for the unemployed Ekiti youths?
“The governor should therefore stop wasting Ekiti State fund on frivolities because one day, he will give account of his wasteful government to Ekiti people,” Babade said.
