We condemn in its entirety the recent deployment of the Nigerian army
personnel to the South East region of the country and the invasion of
Nnamdi Kanu’s residence by the Army.
The Southeast States of Nigeria, which had been peaceful has come under
siege as the men of Nigerian Army took over major roads of Southeast
states with massive deployment of its personnel in its so called operation
‘Python Dance II’.
The Nigerian Army has not stated their reasons for this deliberate assault
on the freedom of movement of the inhabitants of the South Eastern part of
There has not been any incident or glaring act of threat to national
security by any group in the region to warrant this deployment and
invasion. The services of the Nigerian Army are more needed in the North

Fulani Herdsmen operates freely.
This action by the military has amounted to human rights abuse as
enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria as amended; section 42 (1)
of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended)
provides thus: A citizen of Nigeria of a particular community, ethnic
group, place of origin, sex, religion or political opinion shall not, by
reason only that he is such a person:
(a) be subjected either expressly by, or in the practical application of,
any law in force in Nigeria or any executive or administrative action of
the government, to disabilities or restrictions to which citizens of
Nigeria of other communities, ethnic groups, places of origin, sex,
religious or political opinions are not made subject.
The present action of the Federal Government through the Chief of Army
Staff is discrimination against the South East, the move which had
resulted in grave infringement on the right to freedom of movement of the
people of the zone thereby creating untold hardship and tension on the
The Nigeria Police which is the lawful security outfit to maintain
internal law and security in a democratic setting has not stated that it
is incapable of maintaining law and order in the South East.
We hereby urge the Federal Government to abort the military operation in
order to maintain the already existing peace and normalcy in the region.
God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
