The #BringBackOurGirls, BBOG, campaigners have urged outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan and President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, to collectively work assiduously to ensure that the remaining 219 Chibok schoolgirls still held by Boko Haram insurgents return home before the May 29 handover date.

A leader of the group, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, who spoke during a press briefing, expressed hopes that efforts will be made to see that the abducted girls return to their families during the transition period.

She attributed the success of just-concluded election to Nigerians’ demand for a free, fair and credible election as well as true commitment and sincerity of purpose by the citizens.

According to her, “From this weekend up to yesterday, Nigeria was involved in a presidential electoral cycle that was successful. This is a victory for Nigeria and Nigerians. The success of the entire process was largely because Nigerians placed a demand on the electoral system, and with concerted effort, true commitment and sincerity of purpose from all involved.

“This should be a lesson for all. With this same commitment and sincerity of purpose, we can have our girls back soonest”, she said.

The former Education minister disclosed that as part of its many plans to commemorate the first anniversary of the abduction of the girls by the Boko Haram sect, the group will from Wednesday, the 8 of April, begin a Global Week of Action with the theme: #ChibokGirls #NeverToBeForgotten which will terminate on Tuesday, 14th April, 2015.
