{"id":100729,"date":"2022-10-27T07:40:21","date_gmt":"2022-10-27T06:40:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=100729"},"modified":"2022-10-27T07:40:21","modified_gmt":"2022-10-27T06:40:21","slug":"ekweremadus-fate-hangs-in-air-as-suit-to-remove-him-adjourned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/ekweremadus-fate-hangs-in-air-as-suit-to-remove-him-adjourned\/","title":{"rendered":"Ekweremadu\u2019s Fate Hangs In Air As Suit To Remove Him Adjourned"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">A Federal High Court in Enugu has adjourned hearing until November 9, 2022, a suit seeking to sack the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu from the Senate.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe former deputy Senate President and Beatrice, his wife, are facing charges bordering on conspiracy to arrange\/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.<\/p>\n<p>The couple were arrested by London Metropolitan Police in June and appeared before a magistrate court in July.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nEkweremadu\u2019s wife was granted bail on July 22 with the UK\u2019s Court trial schedule indicating that the senator\u2019s trial would begin on May 28, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In suit number: FHC\/EN\/CS\/171\/22, between Chief Ogochukwu Onyema vs Senator Ahmed Lawan, the Senate, Ekweremadu, INEC and the PDP, the applicant dragged Ekweremadu to court, seeking a declaration of Ekweremadu\u2019s Senate seat vacant and in turn declare him the next in line to assume the seat.<\/p>\n<p>At the hearing of the matter on Wednesday in Enugu, Onyema, who contested the PDP Senate primaries with Ekweremadu in 2018, however, brought a motion to amend the originating summons.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Pointblanknews.com learnt that the amendment was on the runner up to the primary election, who the plaintiff earlier claimed was dead. However, he ran to the court declaring that he was not dead as claimed by the plaintiff.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nBut, the court could not take the motion because, out of the seven respondents, only Ekweremadu\u2019s lawyer, Ogochukwu Onyekwuluje was present.<\/p>\n<p>The presiding judge, Justice Umar Mohammed Garba, therefore adjourned the matter until November 9 for motion for regularisation and possible hearing and to enable all parties to be served.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with newsmen, Onyema said that his plot to sack Ekweremadu from the Senate was not to witch-hunt him, but to actualise his aspiration to represent his people in the Senate.<\/p>\n<p>On the revelation that the person who came second in the 2018 primaries that brought in Ekweremadu was not dead as was stated in his affidavit, Onyema said, \u201cI don\u2019t want to delve into that.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal High Court in Enugu has adjourned hearing until November 9, 2022, a suit seeking to sack the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu from the Senate.
