The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Mr. Goodswill Akpabio, says the forum is aimed at fighting the yet-to-be registered All Progressive Congress (APC), which was formed recently.<\/p>\n
Akpabio, who spoke after the maiden meeting of members of the Forum in Abuja on Monday night, said the Forum would check mate the APC, indicating that the PDP is taking the threat of the emerging party very seriously.<\/p>\n
According to him, “The Forum was formed to x-ray the state of affairs of our party. We are of the opinion that we should take steps to set up structures to meet the emerging challenge of APC.\u201d<\/p>\n
Akpabio did not say how the PDP will respond to the charges of corruption and dismal governance, which is the major plank on which the APC is finding a warm reception with Nigerians.<\/p>\n
The governor said that part of the resolution of his new group is that they should have continued interaction within the party, the National Working Congress, the Board of Trustees, towards building synergy with the Nigeria Governors\u2019 Forum.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe set a committee to evaluate the situation in the South-West and we will be communicating with the southwest leaders and that committee is headed by Governor Ibrahim Shema,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cGovernor Shema and the leaders of that committee would be meeting with the leaders of the southwest and they will come with resolutions that can resolve the issue in the southwest.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said that the PDP Governors Forum also looked into the issue of Adamawa State PDP and came to the conclusion that they should allow Governor Sule Lamido\u2019s committee to do its work to report immediately to the party, the NWC and the Presidency.<\/p>\n
“But in the meantime, we plead that the status quo should be allowed to remain,\u201d Akpabio said.\u00a0 \u201cBy the status quo we mean the Kaugama Mijinjwa Committee, the executive in place prior to the dissolution of the state executive.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the southwest, he said that the Shema committee which is looking into the situation has two weeks to submit its report to the Forum.<\/p>\n
