The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) has arrested the son of former governor of Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Adudu, Mustapha Audu and his wife, Zahrah Audu over an alleged N18million property scam.<\/p>\n
The duo through their company, constructors Guild Limited, allegedly obtained the sum from one Nike Kolawole under the guise of helping her secure choice properties in Katampe Extension, and Caemly Estate, Idu Sabo, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.<\/p>\n
A statement by the commission\u2019s spokesman said the duo would be arraigned at Federal High Court 12, Maitama, Abuja<\/p>\n
Last December the EFCC declared Audu, wanted in connection with offences bordering on conspiracy, stealing and misappropriation of public funds during his reign as governor between 1999 and 2003.<\/p>\n
However, Audu had applied to a Federal High Court in Abuja to stop the anti-graft commission from arresting him.<\/p>\n
Audu is asking the court to stop the EFCC from launching fresh legal offensive against him on the grounds that it amounted to \u201can abuse of court process.\u201d<\/p>\n
Uwujaren then said the decision to declare Audu wanted \u201cfollowed the failure of the suspect to respond to invitation by the anti- graft agency.\u201d<\/p>\n
Uwujaren recounted that \u201cattempt by the EFCC to arrest Audu at his 32, Sulaiman Barau Street , Asokoro, Abuja residence on December 11, 2012 failed as he allegedly evaded arrest.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the former governor was alleged to have fraudulently enriched himself to the tune of over N4 billion while he held sway as governor of Kogi State between 1999 and 2003.<\/p>\n
The move to arrest the ex- governor followed a Supreme Court ruling of November 23, 2012, which dismissed his appeal to continue to protract his corruption trial by EFCC.<\/p>\n
