Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida took a swipe at the current crop of politicians in Nigeria, describing them as selfish and only concerned in getting to power.<\/p>\n
Babangida frowned at the rate of \u201cuse and dump\u201d mentality of politicians whom he accused of not doing anything to enlighten the common man in the streets about their rights and responsibilities as citizens.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is unfortunate that the political elites have failed to enlighten the ordinary man and carry them along; nobody is talking about enlightening the ordinary man because they are only interested in their votes and soon forget them after getting to power.\u201d<\/p>\n
The former Military President noted that politicians have spent most of their times fighting over positions and relegating service to the people to the abyss of their agenda.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe only thing we are busy doing is wasting our energy in fighting on who becomes the Chairman of this and that.\u201d<\/p>\n
He noted that, \u201cuntil we carry the people along and serve them diligently, we will have a long way to go in this country,\u201d Babangida sain during a chat with newsmen in Minna, Niger State.<\/p>\n
Appraising the merger of Political parties, Babangida said as an advocate of a two party system, the emergence of All peoples Congress, APC, is a welcomed development which will serve as a strong opposition to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.<\/p>\n
