{"id":102433,"date":"2023-01-11T14:48:37","date_gmt":"2023-01-11T13:48:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=102433"},"modified":"2023-01-11T14:49:45","modified_gmt":"2023-01-11T13:49:45","slug":"n96bn-fraud-rivers-files-fresh-criminal-charge-against-amaechi-tonye-cole","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/n96bn-fraud-rivers-files-fresh-criminal-charge-against-amaechi-tonye-cole\/","title":{"rendered":"N96bn fraud: Rivers files fresh criminal charge against Amaechi, Tonye Cole"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1754724581983071811\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Rivers State Government has filed a fresh criminal charge against Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of the state and ex-minister of transportation.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>Amaechi was sued alongside Tonye Cole, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, for allegedly selling off state assets.Zacchaeus Adangor, Rivers attorney-general, confirmed the development to newsmen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>The matter started when Nyesom Wike, Rivers governor, set up a seven-man panel to probe Amaechi over the alleged withdrawal of N96 billion from the state\u2019s treasury during the latter\u2019s tenure as governor.The panel had also investigated issues surrounding the \u201csale of assets\u201d by the former governor.<\/p>\n<p>The listed assets are Omoku Gas Turbine, Afam Gas Turbine, Trans Amadi Gas Turbine, Eleme Gas Turbine, Olympia Hotel, and the contract award for the execution of the Mono Rail Project.<\/p>\n<p>The panel submitted its report in 2015, but Amaechi has since insisted that he is not guilty of fraud.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>However, on May 27, 2022, the supreme court dismissed an application by Amaechi challenging the probe.Consequently, the Rivers governor directed the state\u2019s attorney-general to commence immediate prosecution of the former governor as well as Cole and five others.<\/p>\n<p>Wike had also said criminal charges were also filed against Sahara Energy, a firm said to have been indicted in the deals \u2014 the firm is co-founded by Cole.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2022, the suit was struck out by Okogbule Gbasam, judge of the Rivers high court in Port Harcourt, after the state attorney-general applied to withdraw the charge.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Rivers State Government has filed a fresh criminal charge against Rotimi Amaechi, a former governor of the state and ex-minister of transportation.
