{"id":103255,"date":"2023-02-22T19:54:46","date_gmt":"2023-02-22T18:54:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=103255"},"modified":"2023-02-22T19:54:46","modified_gmt":"2023-02-22T18:54:46","slug":"court-orders-forfeiture-of-14-properties-linked-to-kogi-govt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/court-orders-forfeiture-of-14-properties-linked-to-kogi-govt\/","title":{"rendered":"Court orders forfeiture of 14 properties linked to Kogi govt"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State on Wednesday ordered the forfeiture of 14 properties in Lagos, Abuja and the United Arab Emirates linked to the Kogi State government.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Nicholas Oweibo granted the interim order following an ex parte motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.<\/p>\n<p>EFCC counsel, Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, who argued the ex parte motion, told the court that the properties, including the one in the world\u2019s tallest building, Burj Khalifa, in Dubai, UAE, were reasonably suspected to have been derived from unlawful activity.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Oweibo further authorised EFCC to confiscate the sum of N400m, also linked to the state and recovered from one Aminu Falala.<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\nOyedepo informed the court that the N400m was reasonably suspected to have been derived from unlawful activity \u201cand intended to be used for the acquisition of Plot No. 1224 Bishop Oluwole Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the judge directed the EFCC to publish the order within 14 days for any interested party to show cause why the forfeiture order should not be made permanent.<\/p><\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State on Wednesday ordered the forfeiture of 14 properties in Lagos, Abuja and the United Arab Emirates linked to the Kogi State government.&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":103256,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-103255","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-exclusive"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
