Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso of Kano state has taken his transformational campaign to cleansing Kano of street beggars.<\/p>\n
Kano, northern Nigeria is known as one of the major cities where beggars mess up the streets.<\/p>\n
Kwankwaso’s Special Adviser on \u00c2 Disabled Matters, Alhaji Usman Yusuf Usman said 500 beggars have already been registered into a special empowerment scheme for the disabled, destitute and the less privileged.<\/p>\n
Usman said on Monday that the idea was inspired by Kwankwaso’s determination to touch all segments of the society in his desire to give Kano a new breadth of life in terms of democratic dividends and soci-economic development in the ancient commercial city.<\/p>\n
According to him, a Special Task-force from his office is taking the no-beggar-on-the-street campaign to all the nooks and crannies within Kano metropolis, and within the next few months, I assure you that if you come to Kano, you will not find any beggar in the street.<\/p>\n
He said \u00c2 those already registered have been taken to the centres, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153and they are excited and have demonstrated their willingness for the skill acquisition,\u009d pointing out that, they will also under-go training in elementary business like selling of recharge cards, essential commodities, while also being trained in mechanics work, hand-set repairs, tailoring and welding.<\/p>\n
Among those already evacuated from the streets for the purpose of the training programme include cripples, leppers, the blind and deaf and dumb.<\/p>\n
“Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso has to this end directed the office of Disabled Matters to conduct statistics of destitute in the streets to enable the government work out a programme that will cater for their needs,”\u009d Usman stated, while appealing to the destitute to avail themselves of this opportunity by registering with centres of their choice, so as to make a decent living.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
