In a bid to stem growing incidences of internet scams, popularly called Yahoo frauds, operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) busted a syndicate of organized cyber criminals and arrested no fewer than 19 undergraduate suspects.<\/div>\n

\nThis followed the raiding of the Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Ikot Akpaden in Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area, at the weekend.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
According to our source, the suspects were rounded up at their private hostels including Obong Abasi Lodge and Mfon Obong Lodge, following intelligence and several months of painstaking surveillance.<\/p>\n

Disclosing the breakthrough, the anti-graft agency on behalf of the Chairman, Abulrasheed Bawa, explained \u201ctheir arrest followed several months of surveillance on their suspected involvement in romance scam, fraudulent crypto currency transactions and impersonation.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to the Command, Items recovered from them include, several laptops and mobile phones, and vowed that \u201cthey will be charged to court as soon as Investigations are concluded.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n

\nEFCC, therefore warned students of tertiary institutions to be wary of untoward lifestyles and shun bad company to avoid their future being truncated as relevant sections of the law would be invoked in the process of getting suspected criminals to face the law and be punished if found culpable.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
