DSS Arrests CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1768264604915806160\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pointblanknews.com reports that the Department of state service (DSS) has arrested suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>This is coming after President Tinubu ordered his suspension and expressed the desire to probe him following the financial status of the country.<\/p>\n<p>Willie Bassey, director of information, SGF office, in a statement issued on Friday, said the suspension is with immediate effect.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, Emefiele is to transfer his responsibilities to the deputy governor, operations directorate.<\/p>\n<p>Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, the deputy governor, is expected to act as the CBN governor pending the conclusion of an investigation of Emefiele\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy,\u201d the statement reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emefiele was one of the top officials who met with Tinubu on his first day in office as president.<\/p>\n<p>During his inaugural speech, Tinubu said the current 18.5 percent interest rate of the\u00a0CBN\u00a0is \u201ctoo high\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu said it needed to be adjusted downwards to encourage investment.<\/p>\n<p>He described the interest rate as \u201canti-people\u201d and \u201canti-business\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMonetary policy needs thorough house cleaning. The Central Bank must work towards a unified exchange rate. This will direct funds away from arbitrage into meaningful investment in the plant, equipment and jobs that power the real economy,\u201d Tinubu said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cInterest rates need to be reduced to increase investment and consumer purchasing in ways that sustain the economy at a higher level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president also said his administration will review the\u00a0naira redesign policy.<\/p>\n<p>In the build-up to the last general election, members of Tinubu\u2019s party \u2014 the All Progressives Congress (APC) \u2014 accused Emefiele of using the policy to hurt the chances of the president in the poll.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pointblanknews.com reports that the Department of state service (DSS) has arrested suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
