{"id":105377,"date":"2023-06-12T19:14:29","date_gmt":"2023-06-12T18:14:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=105377"},"modified":"2023-06-12T19:14:29","modified_gmt":"2023-06-12T18:14:29","slug":"breaking-president-tinubu-signs-students-loan-bill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/breaking-president-tinubu-signs-students-loan-bill\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: President Tinubu signs Students Loan Bill"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">Succour may have come the way of indigent students in the country as President Bola Tinubu signed the Students Loan Bill into law.<\/p>\n<p>The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr. David Adejo Andrew disclosed this to State House correspondents, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The Permanent Secretary said that the Students Loan Bill that has been signed into law is an interest-free loan.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe Student Loan Bill is expected to see the establishment of an education bank.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that, in November 2022, the bill, which seeks to provide interest-free loans to indigent Nigerian students, was passed by the national assembly.<\/p>\n<p>The bill was sponsored by the immediate-past speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that, speaking at one of his campaigns, Tinubu had promised to give student loans as part of efforts to develop the education sector and also build the youth capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu made the promise at the British Royal Institute in London.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYouths are the greatest asset of tomorrow,\u201d Tinubu said in Chatham House while fielding questions from participants at the event, adding that they will be part of his \u201call-inclusive\u201d government, pointing to the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe education system is to change. We would overhaul it and tinker with some areas with the philosophy that no one would be left behind. There will be student loans for all.
