{"id":105877,"date":"2023-07-06T20:01:03","date_gmt":"2023-07-06T19:01:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=105877"},"modified":"2023-07-06T20:01:03","modified_gmt":"2023-07-06T19:01:03","slug":"inec-files-6-charges-against-suspended-adamawa-rec","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/inec-files-6-charges-against-suspended-adamawa-rec\/","title":{"rendered":"INEC files 6 charges against suspended Adamawa REC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1770692817367848780\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has filed a six-count charge against the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa-Ari.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, made this known in a statement issued on Thursday, July 6, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Okoye noted that the charges were filed at the High Court in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.<\/p>\n<p>He said the electoral umpire filed the charges after reviewing the case file from the police which established a prima facie case against Yunusa-Ari.<\/p>\n<p>The INEC official stated: \u201cHaving reviewed the case file from the Police which established a prima facie case against Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari, the Commission has filed a six-count charge against him at the Adamawa State High Court sitting in Yola.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsequently, the court has fixed Wednesday 12th July 2023 for the commencement of trial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMeanwhile, the Commission is working with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for the diligent prosecution of other cases.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yunusa-Ari made headlines after declaring the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aishatu Binani, as the winner of the poll while the collation of results was still ongoing at the INEC\u2019s collation centre in Yola on April 16, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>The suspended REC, who said the APC candidate scored the highest number of votes, did not provide the data or the results with which she won the election.<\/p>\n<p>INEC, while declaring Yunusa-Ari\u2019s action null and void, summoned him and others involved in the action to the electoral umpire\u2019s headquarters in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Pointblanknews.com reported that the suspended REC voluntarily reported to the police in Abuja on Tuesday, May 2.<\/p>\n<p>INEC, on Tuesday, April 18, declared Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the gubernatorial poll.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has filed a six-count charge against the suspended Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa-Ari.
