{"id":106718,"date":"2023-08-02T20:49:34","date_gmt":"2023-08-02T19:49:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=106718"},"modified":"2023-08-02T20:49:34","modified_gmt":"2023-08-02T19:49:34","slug":"niger-four-countries-absent-as-ecowas-defence-chiefs-meet-in-nigeria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/niger-four-countries-absent-as-ecowas-defence-chiefs-meet-in-nigeria\/","title":{"rendered":"Niger: Four countries absent as ECOWAS Defence Chiefs meet in Nigeria"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\">Defence Chiefs from Mali, Niger, Guinea Bissau, and Burkina Faso are conspicuously absent from the meeting currently ongoing in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>Defence Chiefs from Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea, Cote D\u2019Ivoire, and Cape Verde are in attendance at the meeting, which is taking place at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting is being chaired by the chairman of ECOWAS military chief, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting is coming after the seven-day ultimatum issued by the Economic Community of West African States following the military coup in Niger Republic.<\/p>\n<p>Nigerien President Mohammed Bazoum was held in his palace last Wednesday by the nation\u2019s Presidential Guard.<\/p>\n<p>The Commander of Niger\u2019s Presidential Guards, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, had last Friday, toppled a democratically elected government in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Tchiani, who has headed the Presidential Guard since 2011, said the coup was the military\u2019s response to \u201cthe degradation of the security situation\u201d linked to jihadist bloodshed.<\/p><\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Defence Chiefs from Mali, Niger, Guinea Bissau, and Burkina Faso are conspicuously absent from the meeting currently ongoing in Abuja.
