Two policemen were killed when heavily armed robbers on Wednesday night invaded the International Wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport Lagos.<\/p>\n
The robbers who made away with a huge amount of foreign currencies from some bureau-de-change operators at the airport stormed the place some few minutes before nine, and headed straight for the BDC operators centre near the car park, shooting sporadically, eyewitnesses said.<\/p>\n
The policemen who died were said to have been shot when the robbers, numbering over 10, were engaged in a gun battle that lasted about 30 minutes. One of the armed robbers also lost his life.<\/p>\n
Eyewitnesses say few minutes after the incident the two dead policemen were conveyed in a van to the mortuary.<\/p>\n
The General Manager, Corporate Communications Mr. Yakubu Dati, who confirmed the robbery said he could only confirm the death of one of the robbers.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe situation has since been brought under control by the swift intervention of joint security force. They were apparently attempting to rob a bureau de change operator near the airport. Normal operations and flight have not been affected by the incident,\u201d Dati said.<\/p>\n
