The Department of State Service (DSS) has released Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).<\/p>\n

He was set free on Wednesday night after having spent about 135 days in detention.<\/p>\n

The DSS confirmed Bawa\u2019s release from its custody in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Peter Afunanya.<\/p>\n

\u201cDSS confirms release of former EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, a few hours ago (today 25th October, 2023),\u201d DSS said in a statement.<\/p>\n

The former EFCC Chairman was arrested by the DSS in mid-June following his suspension by President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n

Although DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya said Bawa arrived at the DSS office to honour an \u2018invitation\u2019, he was not allowed to leave until after four months.<\/p>\n

Afunanya said the \u2018invitation\u2019 was in connection with some investigative activities about Bawa\u2019s tenure as EFCC chairman.<\/p>\n

As of the time of filing this report, the outcome of the investigation on Bawa had yet to be disclosed.<\/p>\n

President Tinubu, about a week ago, appointed a new EFCC chairman, Ola Olukoyede, to replace Bawa.<\/p>\n

The Senate confirmed Olukayode as Chairman and Muhammad Hammajoda as the Secretary of the anti-graft agency.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
