{"id":108899,"date":"2023-10-26T12:49:02","date_gmt":"2023-10-26T11:49:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=108899"},"modified":"2023-10-26T12:49:02","modified_gmt":"2023-10-26T11:49:02","slug":"25-votes-supreme-court-upholds-appeal-courts-ruling-on-fct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/25-votes-supreme-court-upholds-appeal-courts-ruling-on-fct\/","title":{"rendered":"25% Votes: Supreme Court Upholds Appeal Court\u2019s Ruling On FCT"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the ruling by the Appeal Court that a candidate does not need to get at least 25 per cent of votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to be declared as the country\u2019s president.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Inyang Okoro led the panel of justices to determine Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar\u2019s appeal against Tinubu\u2019s victory.<\/p>\n<p>While Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP)\u2019s Peter Obi had wanted Tinubu\u2019s win in February 2023 to be nullified on the ground that he did not get 25 per cent of votes in the FCT, the Appeal Court ruled that their petition was immaterial.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nUnsatisfied with the judgment, the duo took the matter to the apex court, seeking the overturning of Tinubu\u2019s win.<\/p>\n<p>But on Thursday, Justice Okoro corroborated the Appeal Court\u2019s ruling, saying the FCT has no special status.<\/p>\n<p>The Supreme Court therefore agreed with the appellate court that the 25 per cent claim by Obi and Atiku is immaterial.<\/p>\n<div class=\"yj6qo\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the ruling by the Appeal Court that a candidate does not need to get at least 25 per cent of votes in the Federal&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":80477,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-108899","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
