{"id":108904,"date":"2023-10-26T15:09:45","date_gmt":"2023-10-26T14:09:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=108904"},"modified":"2023-10-26T15:09:45","modified_gmt":"2023-10-26T14:09:45","slug":"nigerians-disappointed-over-supreme-courts-judgment-pdp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/nigerians-disappointed-over-supreme-courts-judgment-pdp\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigerians disappointed over Supreme Court\u2019s judgment- PDP"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1780826546752763402\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Bayo Davids<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\nThe Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the Supreme Court\u2019s judgement affirming the election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria\u2019s President as disappointing.<br \/>\nPointblanknews.com\u00a0 reports that the apex Court\u00a0 on Thursday upheld the judgment of the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC) affirming the victory of the All Progressives Congress&#8217; Presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).<br \/>\nFormer Vice President and the 2023 Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party counterpart, Mr Peter Obi had filed petitions challenging the victory of President Tinubu as the winner of the presidential election announced by the INEC on March 1.<br \/>\nHowever, five-man panel of the Tribunal led by Justice Haruna Tsammani in September agreed that the petitions accordingly lacked merit and affirmed the return of President Tinubu.<br \/>\nDissatisfied with the tribunal&#8217;s judgment, Atiku and Obi filed 86 grounds of appeal at the Supreme Court to nullify the judgment.<br \/>\nThe apex court on Thursday however dismissed their petitions for lack of merit.<br \/>\nReacting to the Supreme Court Judgement in a statement on Thursday PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba said the are alarmed, disappointed, and gravely concerned with the reasoning of the apex court.<\/p>\n<p>PDP declared &#8220;It is indeed a sad commentary for our democracy that the Supreme Court failed to uphold the provisions of the law. Instead, it trashed the expectation of the majority of Nigerians who looked up to it as a Temple of Impartiality to deliver substantial justice in the matter having regard to the laws and facts of the case.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nigerians earnestly expected the Supreme Court to uphold and defend the clear provisions of the 1999 Constitution in terms of qualification and minimum requirement for a winner to be declared in a Presidential election in Nigeria, especially with regards to the required statutory 25% of votes in the FCT as well as issues of violation of electoral Rules and Guidelines, brazen manipulations and alterations of election results by the APC, Ologunagba added.<\/p>\n<p>The opposition party publicity scribe said Nigerians are still at a loss as to how the Supreme Court condoned the serious issues of alleged forgery, falsehood, and perjury on the altar of technicalities.<br \/>\nHe said &#8220;The general gloom, melancholy and sense of despondency across the country upon the delivery of the judgment is an ominous sign of eerie situation which portend grave consequences because of the disappointment embedded in the judgment.<br \/>\nOlogunagba said the judgment by the apex court has shaken the confidence of Nigerians in the judiciary, especially the Supreme Court as the last hope of the common man.<br \/>\nThe publicity scribe who said the party remains undeterred, charged Nigerians not to be discouraged or allow the judgment to detract them from their collective quest for the entrenchment of a credible electoral system that can guarantee a government that truly derives its legitimacy from the people.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Bayo Davids The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the Supreme Court\u2019s judgement affirming the election of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as Nigeria\u2019s President as disappointing.
