{"id":109015,"date":"2023-10-31T17:12:23","date_gmt":"2023-10-31T16:12:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=109015"},"modified":"2023-10-31T17:12:23","modified_gmt":"2023-10-31T16:12:23","slug":"bayelsa-guber-appeal-court-preserves-sylvas-candidature-of-apc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/bayelsa-guber-appeal-court-preserves-sylvas-candidature-of-apc\/","title":{"rendered":"Bayelsa Guber: Appeal Court preserves Sylva\u2019s candidature of APC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has affirmed Timipre Sylva as the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa State.<\/p>\n<p>The three-member panel, in a unanimous judgement on Tuesday, October 31, held that the trial court which nullified Sylva\u2019s candidature lacked jurisdiction to entertain the suit filed by an APC member, Demesuoyefa Kolomo, having not been an aspirant in the primary election that produced the ex-minister of petroleum.<\/p>\n<p>The court also awarded the sum of N1 million in favour of the appellant (Sylva) in the first appeal marked: CA\/ABJ\/CV\/1060\/2023 between APC and Kolomo.<\/p>\n<p>The court equally awarded the sum of N1 million in favour of Sylva in the appeal marked: CA\/ABJ\/CV\/1061\/2023 between Sylva vs. Kolomo and two others.<\/p>\n<p>Sylva\u2019s appeals were against the October 9 judgement delivered by Justice Donatus Okorowo of a Federal High Court in Abuja, which disqualified Sylva as candidate in the November 11 governorship election.<\/p>\n<p>Kolomo, who described himself as a registered voter, had, in the suit marked: FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/821\/2023 filed on June 3, prayed the court to delete Sylva\u2019s name from the list of candidates vying for the election, having taken an oath of office twice as governor of the state.<\/p><\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has affirmed Timipre Sylva as the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa State.&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":104239,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-109015","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
