{"id":109234,"date":"2023-11-16T17:11:44","date_gmt":"2023-11-16T16:11:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=109234"},"modified":"2023-11-16T17:11:44","modified_gmt":"2023-11-16T16:11:44","slug":"breaking-appeal-court-fixes-friday-for-judgment-on-kano-gov-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/breaking-appeal-court-fixes-friday-for-judgment-on-kano-gov-election\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: Appeal Court fixes Friday for judgment on Kano gov election"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has fixed tomorrow, Friday, November 17, 2023, for judgment in the Kano State governorship election dispute between Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC).<\/div>\n<div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\nThe judgment will be delivered by 10 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the court had on November 6, 2023, reserved judgment in the appeal by the state governor, Yusuf, who is challenging his removal by the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.<\/p>\n<p>The tribunal on September 20 nullified Yusuf\u2019s election by declaring 165, 663 of his votes invalid.<\/p>\n<p>The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had declared Yusuf the winner of the March 18 governorship election, after he secured 1,019,602 votes against his opponent Nasiru Gawuna who secured 890,705 votes.<\/p>\n<p>However, after the tribunal deducted the 165,663 votes from Yusuf\u2019s score, his votes were reduced to 853, 939, which was over 30,000 votes less than the 890,705 votes polled by Gawuna.<\/p>\n<p>Consequently, the court declared the APC candidate the winner of the governorship election and ordered the INEC to withdraw Yusuf\u2019s certificate of return and issue another to Gawuna.<\/p>\n<p>Dissatisfied with the judgment, Yusuf and his party, the NNPP, as well as the INEC approached the appellate court to challenge the judgment of the lower court.<\/p>\n<p>Expectations on the outcome of the Appeal Court verdict had caused serious tension in Kano, with the law enforcement agents constantly harping on the need for the residents to maintain the peace.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has fixed tomorrow, Friday, November 17, 2023, for judgment in the Kano State governorship election dispute between Governor Abba Yusuf of the New&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":109235,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-109234","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-exclusive"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
