Senators from the 19 northern states under the aegis of Northern Senators Forum have urged the Federal Government to identify, apprehend and punish those behind the recent Killings in Jos, Plateau State.<\/p>\n
They also want the government to draw action from reports of investigation of similar cases, and take necessary steps to prevent future occurrences.<\/p>\n
Pointblanknews.com reported that the Plateau State Police Command on Tuesday disclosed that 96 persons were killed while 221 houses were set ablaze during the Christmas Eve attacks by gunmen in Plateau State.<\/p>\n
According to him, the attacks that were carried out by the assailants in 15 communities of Bokkos and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas of the state also left eight vehicles burnt in the process.<\/p>\n
In a statement by the Northern Senators signed by the forum spokesperson, Senator Kawu Sumaila, they condemned the acts and condoled the affected families and the Government of the state.<\/p>\n
The statement read, \u201cIt is with profound sorrow and a weighty heart that, as a forum, we address you on the recent tragic incident of mass killing in Plateau State.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis brutal act is indefensible, devoid of reason, and stains our shared humanity.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe unequivocally condemn such heinous acts and express our deepest condolences to the affected families, loved ones, the people, and the Government of Plateau State.\u201d<\/p>\n
The lawmakers in the statement added, \u201cTheir immense loss is a collective grief, and we stand united in our determination to seek justice.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn our legislative role, we strongly condemn this reprehensible act and call upon the authorities to promptly initiate a comprehensive investigation.<\/p>\n
\u201cAllocating necessary resources to swiftly identify and apprehend the perpetrators is paramount. They must face the full force of the law, ensuring justice prevails.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Northern senators noted that a collective effort will foster resilience to overcome \u201cthis dark chapter in our history.\u201d<\/p>\n
