{"id":110103,"date":"2024-01-12T17:17:09","date_gmt":"2024-01-12T16:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=110103"},"modified":"2024-01-12T17:17:09","modified_gmt":"2024-01-12T16:17:09","slug":"supreme-court-affirms-ottis-victory-as-abia-governor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/supreme-court-affirms-ottis-victory-as-abia-governor\/","title":{"rendered":"Supreme Court Affirms Otti\u2019s Victory As Abia Governor"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1787895607698796588\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed the election of Alex Otti as the Governor of Abia state.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nJustice Uwani Abba-Aji who read the lead judgment, held that the appellants failed to prove substantial non-compliance in their appeal.<\/p>\n<p>On the issue of Otti\u2019s membership, the appellant had contended that he wasn\u2019t validly nominated and sponsored by the Labour Party (LP) at the time of the election. However, the appellate court held that the issue of membership is an internal affair and as such lacks jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<p>The apex court faulted the appellants for bringing the appeal to the court, tagging it as frivolous and vexatious.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Otti had scored 175,466 votes to defeat Okey Ahiwe of the PDP, who polled 88,529 votes in the election early last year.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed the election of Alex Otti as the Governor of Abia state.
