{"id":110198,"date":"2024-01-18T15:41:47","date_gmt":"2024-01-18T14:41:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=110198"},"modified":"2024-01-18T15:41:47","modified_gmt":"2024-01-18T14:41:47","slug":"just-in-court-grants-emefiele-the-permission-to-travel-out-of-fct","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/just-in-court-grants-emefiele-the-permission-to-travel-out-of-fct\/","title":{"rendered":"Just in: Court grants Emefiele the permission to travel out of FCT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court has granted the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele\u2019s request to travel out of the FCT.<\/p>\n<p>The court said Emefiele must, however, remain in the country.<\/p>\n<p>On his bail terms, he was restricted to the FCT.<\/p>\n<p>Emefiele, through his lawyer, Mathew Bukka, SAN, had requested a variation of the terms.<\/p>\n<p>The Counsel of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, did not object.<\/p>\n<p>He told the court to ensure that Emefiele wrote an undertaking that he would remain in the country if his plea was granted.<\/p>\n<p>The charge against the former governor of the CBN was also amended to 20 from 6.<\/p>\n<p>The amended charges against Emefiele now includes criminal breach of trust, forgery, conspiracy to commit forgery, procurement fraud and conspiracy to commit felony.<\/p>\n<p>The court had on December 24, 2023 granted Emefiele bail in sum of N300 million with two sureties in like sum.<\/p>\n<p>His lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mathew Burkaa, told Channels Television that Emefiele was released from the Kuje Correctional Centre after his lawyers perfected his bail conditions.<\/p>\n<p>Emefiele was arraigned on a six-count charge bordering on procurement fraud and using his position to confer a corrupt advantage on Sa\u2019adatu Yaro, a staff of the CBN, by awarding a contract for the procurement of 43 vehicles worth N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020.<\/p>\n<p>While he was remanded in Kuje, Emefiele was mandated to deposit all his travel documents with the registrar of the court and must remain within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe trial over his alleged procurement of vehicles has already began before Justice Hamza Muazu.<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Justice Hamza Muazu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court has granted the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele\u2019s request to travel out of the FCT.
