{"id":111057,"date":"2024-03-22T02:43:52","date_gmt":"2024-03-22T01:43:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=111057"},"modified":"2024-03-22T02:43:52","modified_gmt":"2024-03-22T01:43:52","slug":"efcc-re-arraigns-ex-governor-son-for-n29bn-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/efcc-re-arraigns-ex-governor-son-for-n29bn-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"EFCC re-arraigns ex-governor, son for N29bn fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arraigned a former governor of Adamawa State, Murtala Nyako\u200e, and his son, Abdulaziz, before the Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged N29 billion fraud.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe defendants were re-arraigned on 37 counts of money laundering allegedly perpetrated while Nyako was governor of Adamawa State.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nOthers arraigned with them on Thursday, March 21, 2024, were Zulkifik Abba and Abubakar Aliyu.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe firms allegedly used in laundering the funds \u2013 Blue Opal Limited, Sebore Farms and Extension Limited, Pagoda Fortunes Limited, Tower Assets Management Limited, and Crust Energy Limited were also joined as 5th to the 9th defendants, respectively.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe re-arraignment followed the elevation of the former trial judge, Justice Okon Abang, to the Court of Appeal.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe prosecution counsel, Oluwaleke Atolagbe, told the court that the matter was starting afresh because the first two judges who were handling the matter were no longer available to handle it.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe trial judge, Justice Peter Lifu, directed that the charge be read to the defendants to enter their plea.<br \/>\nThey all retained their not-guilty plea.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nCounsel for the Nyako, his son, and their companies, Michael Aondoakaa (SAN), prayed the court to allow his clients to continue to attend a trial on bail in the same terms and conditions earlier imposed by the court when they first took their plea.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nAondoakaa said: \u201cMy Lord, we have enjoyed bail from this court since July 10, 2015.
