The operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of a gang who murdered six National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members during the post-presidential election violence in Giade Local Government Area of the state in 2011.<\/p>\n
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police Auwal Muhammad disclosed this at a press conference in Bauchi on Thursday, May 30, 2024.<\/p>\n
Muhammad gave the names of the deceased corps members as Nkwazema Anslem from Imo State, Adewumi Paul (Ekiti), Okpokiri Obinna (Abia), Teidi Tosin (Kogi), Adewei Elliot (Bayelsa), and Ukeoma Chibuzor (Imo).<\/p>\n
He also identified the arrested suspects as 30-year-old Kabiru Musa, well known as Dawa; and 31-year-old Anas Adamu.<\/p>\n
He said the suspects and their gang members, after the announcement of the presidential election results, armed with dangerous weapons, also stormed the Giade Divisional Police Headquarters and attacked a policewoman, Rifkatu Bappa, who was on counter duty at the charge room.<\/p>\n
He noted that the police officer was injured and was evacuated to Federal Medical Centre in Azare where she was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.<\/p>\n
Muhammad added: \u201cThe gang also attacked and broke into shops of traders and carted away valuables, further causing a breakdown of law and order.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter a manhunt for a decade, the suspect has been arrested and investigation is ongoing.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt may interest you to also know that the same suspect (Dawa) in a related development has been arraigned before the court for a case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe incident occurred on the 26th of April, 2024 about 10:30 p.m. when some water vendors inhabitants of Unguwar Tudun Maje Giade town discovered the decomposed body of an adult girl in a well situated in the same address.<\/p>\n
\u201cFollowing the discovery of the decomposed body, they reported at the Divisional Police Headquarters Giade, where the DPO drafted his men, visited the scene and removed the remains to General Hospital Giade and she was certified dead by a medical doctor.<\/p>\n
\u201cSubsequently, the DPO invited the residents to come forward for identification, and she was identified as Aisha Mohammad, aged 17yrs of Giade LGA, Bauchi State.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring interrogation, the first defendant denied the allegation against him while the second accused freely confessed to the crime and confirmed that they killed the said (Aisha) deceased and dumped her body into the well together with the said Dawa who happens to be his boss.\u201d<\/p>\n
