The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru has urged the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) to support the Federal Government efforts in combating oil theft and other related crimes.<\/p>\n
Badaru gave the charge on Thursday while playing host to NYCN delegation led by its President, Ambassador Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, at Ship House, Abuja.<\/p>\n
A statement issued by the Personal Assistant, Media and Publicity to the Minister, Mati Ali quoted Badaru as highlighting the critical role of youth engagement in national development and security, saying \u201cYouth involvement is crucial in our efforts to combat oil theft and ensure the security of our resources,” he stated.<\/p>\n
The meeting aimed to explore collaborative efforts to curb rampant oil theft and bunkering in the Niger-Delta region, is part of\u00a0 the Minister’s effort to adopt inclusive measures to address the scourge of oil theft in the Niger Delta.<\/p>\n
The Minister highlighted the importance of partnerships in addressing security challenges, saying “Together, we can develop innovative solutions to tackle oil theft and other security issues affecting our nation.”<\/p>\n
On his part, Sukubo affirmed the council’s commitment to supporting the Ministry’s initiatives, and pledged to “work hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Defence to protect national assets and promote peace in the Niger-Delta region.”<\/p>\n
The partnership is expected to boost and enhance surveillance and monitoring of oil facilities, provide intelligence on illegal oil bunkering and theft, support military operations in the region, engage in community outreach and awareness programs and foster collaboration with local stakeholders.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
