Suspected gunmen, on Friday, attacked Mbache Ward in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, reportedly killing 18 persons.<\/div>\n

\nConfirming the incident on Saturday, the Caretaker Chairman of the council, Mr Justine Shaku, said\u00a0 that a father and his two children were also kidnapped during the attack.<\/p>\n

Shaku said he received a distress call at 11p.m. on Friday that some gunmen were going from house to house, forcing people to follow them.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cI quickly notified the military officers at Tor Donga, but before they could reach Mbache ward where the incident was happening, the gunmen had killed 18 persons and left with three others.<\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday night, I was told it was 17, but today, 18 bodies have been confirmed dead.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of them were assembled in one place and killed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis morning, I, the assembly member and adviser on legislative matters held a meeting and we communicated the development to the Commissioner of Police.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe is on his way coming. Since he is coming, we asked the villagers to wait. Let him join us here in Katsina-Ala town before we visit the scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes some people were kidnapped, one man and his two children were kidnapped.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the recent days apart from what happened yesterday, we have pockets of kidnappings.<\/p>\n

\u201cKidnapping is also resurfacing in the area\u201d, he said<\/p>\n

Shaku said the local terrorists were using guerilla war tactics. \u201cThey hit and run away.\u201d<\/p>\n

The council chairman said the security situation in the council was not encouraging, but expressed optimism that there was hope at the end of the tunnel.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the month of June, the security situation was very bad, but this month, we have not witnessed such attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven those they ransacked their houses have moved back to their homes and things appeared to be calm before this attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey are local terrorists. I no longer call them bandits because I\u2019m seeing hands\/elements of terrorism in their activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people should be calm. Governor Hyacinth Alia is committed to keeping our societies safe from such acts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey should be assured that very soon, it will be things in the past,\u201d he said<\/p>\n

Also when contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Sewuese Anene, confirmed the attack, saying investigation into the incident was on going.<\/p>\n

Anene said that security had been beefed up and normalcy had returned to the area.<\/p>\n

He urged the residents to remain calm and continue to maintain restraint in the face of provocation.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
