{"id":113581,"date":"2024-08-02T22:56:58","date_gmt":"2024-08-02T21:56:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=113581"},"modified":"2024-08-02T22:56:58","modified_gmt":"2024-08-02T21:56:58","slug":"japa-uk-suspends-n80m-income-threshold-for-family-visa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/japa-uk-suspends-n80m-income-threshold-for-family-visa\/","title":{"rendered":"Japa: UK suspends N80m income threshold for Family Visa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has revealed that the UK government\u2019s plan to raise the family visa threshold from \u00a329,000 to \u00a338,700 [approximately N80 million] has been put on hold.<\/p>\n<p>This policy, initially set to take effect in 2025, was introduced earlier this year by former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as part of efforts to address record immigration figures.<\/p>\n<p>The new administration has decided to delay the implementation of the proposed increase until a comprehensive review of the family visa policy is conducted by the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC).<\/p>\n<p>Until the review is completed, the current threshold of \u00a329,000 will remain in place.<\/p>\n<p>Cooper confirmed that no further adjustments to the policy will occur until the independent review is completed.<\/p>\n<p>The government has tasked MAC with evaluating the impact of restricting migrant workers from bringing family members to the UK and the implications of increasing wage thresholds.<\/p>\n<p>The new government, under Cooper\u2019s direction, plans to reassess its approach to legal migration. The objective is to enhance the skills of the local workforce before turning to foreign recruitment. Cooper criticized the recent rise in legal migration levels, citing it as indicative of failures in addressing labor market shortages.
