The Police in Abuja have dispersed hunger protesters with tear gas at the Federal Capital Territory.<\/div>\n

\nThe protesters in large number avoided confrontation with security operatives who had been deployed in large numbers at the Eagle Square, Central Business District, the National Stadium started the procession at the Apo and Lokogoma axis of the city as early as 6:30 am.<\/p>\n

The protesters demanded an end to the grueling economic situation in the country and a reversal of the fuel subsidy in the country among others.<\/p>\n

However the protesters came into contact with police operatives at the Galadimawa axis of the city and were dispersed.<\/p>\n

The police fired canisters of teargas\u00a0\u00a0to disperse them as they moved towards the round about which leads to the Stadium and Garki areas of the city.<\/p>\n

Following the statement on Friday, the police and other security operatives were deployed in strategic places in Abuja to contain any unforeseen developments that could follow the protests.<\/p>\n

National Coordinator of the Take It Back Movement, one of the organizers of the EndBadGovernace nationwide protest Sanyaolu Juwon, had said in a statement on Friday that the organizers had scheduled a one-million man protest\u00a0\u00a0in all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.<\/p>\n

The protests against hardship in the land which started on August 1 across the country were meant to be on August 10 (Today).<\/p>\n

The protests had assumed a disturbing dimension in Abuja and other cities when hoodlums hijacked them to destroy government buildings , and loot individual assets property.<\/p>\n

In some of the state of the North,\u00a0such as Jigawa, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, Bauchi,\u00a0\u00a0Kaduna and others\u00a0\u00a0the protests got violent and resulted in the death of some youths.<\/p>\n

A large number\u00a0\u00a0of protesters in the North engaged in the curious act of flying Russian flags and demanding regime change which was condemned in strong terms by the Nigerians public.<\/p>\n

Foremost international human rights organization, the Amnesty International had put the death toll from the various protest scenes at 20.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
