Gunmen suspected to be bandits, on Saturday, ambushed troops of the Nigerian Army in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing four soldiers in the process.<\/div>\n

\nThe sole administrator of the council, Umar Balle, disclosed this on Sunday while speaking with our correspondent in a telephone conversation.<\/p>\n

Balle, who was among those ambushed by the bandits, escaped the assault by the whiskers.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cSo far, four soldiers died and seven others wounded as a result of gunshots in addition to the burning of their vehicle.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbout six to seven soldiers sustained severe injuries as a result of the insurgents\u2019 attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe injured security personnel who were initially attended to at Gudu General Hospital before they were referred\u00a0 to the Usmanu Danfodiyo Teaching Hospital Sokoto on Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n

The member representing Gudu at the state House of Assembly, Yahya Gudu, who also confirmed the attack, said the assailants burnt down two patrol vehicles of the operatives.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, it is truth. Some gunmen ambushed soldiers on patrol along the Kukurau-Bangi road on Saturday and killed four of them while two others were injured. They also burnt down their patrol vehicles,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

It was further gathered that more security personnel had already been deployed to the area as a result of the incident.<\/p>\n

Efforts to get the reaction of the state government were not successful as the special adviser on security matters to the Sokoto State Governor, Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd ), could not be reached at the time of filing this report.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
