{"id":113887,"date":"2024-08-15T20:57:05","date_gmt":"2024-08-15T19:57:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=113887"},"modified":"2024-08-15T20:57:05","modified_gmt":"2024-08-15T19:57:05","slug":"lg-polls-kano-asks-chairmanship-candidates-to-pay-n10m-councillors-n5m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/lg-polls-kano-asks-chairmanship-candidates-to-pay-n10m-councillors-n5m\/","title":{"rendered":"LG Polls: Kano Asks Chairmanship Candidates To Pay N10m, Councillors N5m"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1807475683084471627\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kano Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has set N10 million for candidates contesting chairmanship seats while councillorship candidates are to pay N5 million ahead of the November 30 local government elections in the state.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nKANSIEC Chairman, Professor Sani Lawan Malumfashi, declared this during the presentation of election guidelines and the timetable to political parties\u2019 representatives at the commission\u2019s headquarters on Thursday.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nHe explained that a candidate contesting the chairmanship position must pay N10 million to be qualified for the election, while a councillorship candidate must pay N5 million.<\/p>\n<p>Malumfashi stated that the guidelines spelt out all the issues of qualification and disqualification of the candidates.<\/p>\n<p>He said the guidelines contained the do\u2019s and don\u2019ts of the elections warning that any party or candidate found committing election malpractice would be dealt with decisively.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nPart of the guidelines, according to him, is that aspirants for the chairmanship position must be 30 years and above.<\/p>\n<p>Councillorship aspirants, he explained, must be 25 years and above, adding that they must all be card carrying members of political parties.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n\u201cChairmanship aspirants must not be bankrupt or ex-convicts. They must be physically and mentally healthy and obtain at least a secondary school certificate.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n\u201cAll the aspirants and candidates must not be drug addicts or members of secret societies,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nMalumfashi also declared that campaigns would commence on September 6 and conclude on October 31, calling on the political parties to ensure peaceful rallies.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cDuring campaigns, we warn against disparaging and abusive comments. Personal attacks during campaigns are discouraged in these guidelines.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n\u201cYou must be tolerant of one another. You should be civil and democratic in your campaigns. The campaigns should be issue-based, not personal attacks.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n\u201cWe have pressing issues bedeviling this country, such as poverty, infrastructure, women and youth empowerment, and the inclusion of disadvantaged groups, among others. You should capitalize on these during the campaigns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will not condone violence, as it contradicts election laws.
