{"id":11410,"date":"2013-03-27T20:08:34","date_gmt":"2013-03-27T19:08:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=11410"},"modified":"2013-03-27T20:08:34","modified_gmt":"2013-03-27T19:08:34","slug":"uba-committed-to-raising-awareness-on-prostrate-cancer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/uba-committed-to-raising-awareness-on-prostrate-cancer\/","title":{"rendered":"UBA Committed To Raising Awareness on Prostrate Cancer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, through its corporate social responsibility vehicle, UBA Foundation has restated its commitment to raising awareness on the scourge of Prostate Cancer among men.<\/p>\n<p>The Group Managing Director\/CEO of UBA Plc, Mr. Phillips Oduoza while flagging off the UBA Foundation Mini-Marathon for Prostate Cancer Awareness held in Lagos at the weekend, disclosed that the Bank, through UBA Foundation is encouraged to propagate this crusade noting that despite the deadly nature of Prostate Cancer, it can be cured when detected and treated at its early stage.<\/p>\n<p>The Mini-Marathon, which is in continuation of the Foundation&#8217;s annual prostate cancer awareness initiative commenced from the UBA Headquarters on Marina, Lagos via Western Avenue and terminated at the National Stadium Surulere, Lagos, where other health and fitness activities including free screening for Prostate Cancer was held. The event also came on the heels of &#8216;Walk, Cycle and Jog for Prostate Cancer&#8217; programme organized by the Foundation in 2011 as well as &#8216;Play Soccer for Prostate Cancer&#8217; held in 2012, when the Foundation brought out\u00a0 ex-Nigerian international soccer stars to play soccer as part of creating awareness for Prostate Cancer.<\/p>\n<p>During the marathon event, Mr. Adatanlen Moses won the coveted cash prize of N500,000.00. The 1st runner -up, Mohammed Hassan won N300,000.00 and 2nd Runner-up, Alli Labbeb went home with N200,000.00 whilst the 10 others went home with a UBA Prepaid Card, each loaded with N20,000.00.<\/p>\n<p>Participation cut across all cadre of the society including women, family groups, corporate executives, professional athletes and 8 year old Anthonia Oluwaseyi, who despite her age completed the marathon, far ahead of so many others.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the National Stadium in Lagos, the Bank&#8217;s Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Kennedy Uzoka advised men aged 40 and above not to be afraid of getting tested for prostate cancer.
