{"id":114328,"date":"2024-09-19T19:03:03","date_gmt":"2024-09-19T18:03:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=114328"},"modified":"2024-09-19T19:03:03","modified_gmt":"2024-09-19T18:03:03","slug":"unlawful-removal-from-office-fg-ex-cjn-onnoghen-to-settle-out-of-court","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/unlawful-removal-from-office-fg-ex-cjn-onnoghen-to-settle-out-of-court\/","title":{"rendered":"Unlawful removal from office: FG, ex-CJN Onnoghen to settle out of court"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1810640232829088422\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday granted the request of the Federal Government and former Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, to settle out of court an appeal challenging his removal from office.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nThe decision of the court followed information that the two parties in the suit had intensified efforts to reach an amicable settlement of all issues in the dispute.<\/p>\n<p>Former President Muhammadu Buhari had in 2019 removed Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria during the pendency of a charge against him at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.<\/p>\n<p>However, at Thursday\u2019s proceedings in the appeal, counsel to CJN, Dr Ogwu \u00a0Onoja, SAN, informed a three-member panel of the Appeal Court that the two parties were involved in discussions on a peaceful resolution of the dispute.<\/p>\n<p>Onoja informed the court that the parties had an engagement up until Wednesday and expressed optimism that the discussion would bear fruitful results.<\/p>\n<p>He subsequently appealed to the appellate court for a one-month adjournment for final settlement of the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Counsel to the federal government, Tijani Gazali confirmed the submission of Onoja and requested that the matter be shifted for a possible amicable settlement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy Lords, I wish to humbly confirm the information. It is our position to settle the matter out of court,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Justice J. O.
