Jamilu Abdullahi, an Abuja-based Bureau de Change<\/em>\u00a0operator and\u00a0third prosecution witness in the trial of Ali Bello,\u00a0on\u00a0Thursday,\u00a0September 26, 2024, gave\u00a0a narrative of the financial transactions between him and the Kogi State government under former governor, Yahaya \u00a0Bello\u00a0before\u00a0Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Maitama Abuja.<\/p>\n

The rundown includes\u00a0how the former governor repeatedly paid school fees of his three daughters in dollars through him and his companies.<\/p>\n

Ali Bello, the\u00a0current\u00a0Chief of Staff\u00a0to Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, \u00a0is the nephew of Yahaya Bello. He is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC\u00a0on 18-count charges of money laundering and misappropriation\u00a0to the tune of over\u00a0N3 billion, alongside Abba Daudu, Yakubu Adabenege, and Iyada Sadat.<\/p>\n

\n

Led in evidence by the prosecution counsel,\u00a0Rotimi Oyedepo,\u00a0SAN, the witness disclosed\u00a0that in one of the occasions, Daudu,\u00a0the second defendant brought\u00a0$300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand Dollars)\u00a0in\u00a0cash to him for the payment\u00a0of\u00a0Yahaya Bello\u2019s daughters\u2019\u00a0school fees.\u00a0“Abba Daudu called me to say that they have a transaction though it was on the weekend, but I drove down to the office and waited for them to come. Upon their arrival, three of them came. One of them stayed in the car with the driver, two of them walked to my office and a friend of Abba Daudu was holding black leather bag containing $300,000.<\/p>\n

\u201cUpon entering, he greeted and Abba Daudu introduced him as his friend and business partner saying he has a transaction. He dropped $300,000 in cash. I wanted to count the dollars before they left, but I could not due to the power outage. I told him I cannot use my hands and needed to confirm that it was $300,000, so I locked the dollars in my office safe and two of them left.\u00a0Then,\u00a0Abba Daudu\u2019s friend said when I confirmed the sum, details will be forwarded to me for payment. However, the sum of $300,000 attracts some service charges which he said I should calculate and let Abba Daudu know. After I completed the transfer, I forwarded four receipts indicating $75,000 four times to Abba Daudu, and he confirmed to me that the payment was confirmed successfully,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

When asked by the prosecution counsel\u00a0if\u00a0he knew anything regarding the transactions\u00a0on Exhibit D, Pages\u00a050, 52 and 53,\u00a0he\u00a0said \u201cYes I know the transactions of $75,000,\u00a0being paid to the school four times totalling,\u00a0the sum of $300,000 as forwarded by Abba Daudu and further confirmed that the fees was paid for\u00a0one of Yahaya Bello\u2019s daughters.\u00a0\u201cAnd the name of the recipient is Naima Ohunene Bello,\u201d he\u00a0said.<\/p>\n

Another payment of the fees, he recalled, was done by a company,\u00a0Aleshua Solutions\u00a0Services\u00a0which,\u00a0he said paid the sum of $42,170 for Naima Ohunene Bello. “It was paid on behalf of the student Naima Ohunene Bello for school fees based on the instruction and as forwarded by Abba Daudu, and the date is 24th January, 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n

On\u00a0Page 7\u00a0of the Exhibit D, was $78,160 he identified as payment for school\u00a0fees\u00a0through Aleshua\u00a0Solutions Services in respect of\u00a0another Yahaya Bello\u2019s daughter,\u00a0Fatima Oziohu Bello. \u201cBased on the receipt before me, I am seeing acknowledgement of $78,135 being paid for Fatima Bello and on the Aleshua Solutions Services.<\/p>\n

On Page\u00a0One\u00a0of Exhibit D,\u00a0he identified\u00a0a transaction of $44,675\u00a0also\u00a0for Naima Bello.\u00a0 \u201cI have seen it on the receipt of the payment.\u00a0Forty-four thousand, seven hundred dollars,\u00a0($44,700)\u00a0was paid to the school, but due to internal charges from the bank,\u00a0$25 dollars was deducted, making the total balance of $44,675.00,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The beneficiary school, he told the court, was\u00a0American International School (AIS).<\/p>\n

Regarding\u00a0transactions from Daudu\u2019s company, \u00a0Keyless Nature Limited to his\u00a0own\u00a0Kunfayakun company\u2019s\u00a0account\u00a0on December\u00a015\u00a0and 17, 2021, he said:\u00a0\u201cI received the sum of\u00a0N100 million on the 15th\u00a0December 2021 from Keyless Nature.\u00a0On the 17th\u00a0December, 2021, I received\u00a0N400 million. Meanwhile on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd, December 2021, I received\u00a0N100 million. On the 22nd\u00a0December 2021, I received the sum of\u00a0N100 million only. On the 23rd\u00a0December 2021, I received\u00a0N35 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cI also received payment from Remita International in the sum of\u00a0N40 million on 12th December, 2021, and there was an entry of\u00a0N33 million on the 17th of December 2021. On the 7th February 2022, I confirmed the receipt of\u00a0N90 million from Keyless Nature,\u201d he\u00a0said.<\/p>\n

Counsel to\u00a0Ali Bello,\u00a0first defendant A.M Aliyu,\u00a0who wished\u00a0to cross-examine the witness, asked for adjournment to enable him study and have a full grasp of the massive facts and figures\u00a0involved.\u00a0Nurain Jimoh,\u00a0counsel to the second, third and fourth defendant,\u00a0agreed\u00a0with him, while the prosecution counsel objected to the adjournment on the account that the witness has been in\u00a0the\u00a0dock since February 6, 2023.\u00a0\u201cI believe the cross-examination of PW 3 should begin. If there are other grounds,\u00a0however, the application can be sustained. If not, I urge your lordship to turn it down.<\/p>\n

Justice Egwuatu adjourned the matter\u00a0till October 25, 2024\u00a0and\u00a0November 5\u00a0and 6, 2024 for continuation of trial.<\/p>\n

It could be recalled that\u00a0while\u00a0testifying on Tuesday, September 24, 2024,\u00a0the witness identified\u00a0that Page 9 of\u00a0Exhibit D,\u00a0also\u00a0contained $11,000\u00a0payment by Whales\u00a0Oil and Gas to AIS, which was done\u00a0based on\u00a0Daudu\u2019s\u00a0directive\u00a0being the one who gave him\u00a0the account details into which he made the payment.<\/p>\n

He further explained on the same date that\u00a0exhibits16,\u00a017,\u00a018,\u00a019,\u00a020 and 21\u00a0were all\u00a0payments to AIS.\u00a0Exhibit 16, he said, captured payments of\u00a0$7,653 to Bello Nana Fatima.\u00a0The same he said applied to the payment of\u00a0$19,296\u00a0on Page 17\u00a0and $7,725 on\u00a0Page 18, while pages 19,\u00a020 and 21 captured\u00a0payments of $6,611.29,\u00a0$21,470 and $21,492 respectively in favour of Zahra\u00a0Bello.<\/p>\n

\n

He also\u00a0narrated\u00a0on September 24, 2024\u00a0how cash lodgments running into\u00a0millions of naira were made into his E-Traders International\u00a0Limited and Kunfayakun\u00a0companies\u2019 accounts\u00a0as well as\u00a0to\u00a0his personal account by Daudu.<\/p>\n

According to him,\u00a0on July\u00a027, 2021 he received\u00a0N10 million and\u00a0on August\u00a019,2012,\u00a0there was a cash deposit of\u00a0\u00a0N100 million\u00a0in\u00a0N10 million\u00a0tranches and\u00a0N100 million\u00a0deposit\u00a0on August\u00a025, 2021.<\/p>\n

On August\u00a030, 2021, he disclosed that there was N63 million deposit and\u00a0an additional N50 million, a day later\u00a0on August 31, 2021 into his account.\u00a0He further disclosed that\u00a0on September\u00a02,\u00a02021,\u00a0there was\u00a0a double N30 million lodgment totaling\u00a0N60 million.<\/p>\n

He stated that the inflows into his accounts continued\u00a0on October\u00a08, 2021,\u00a0with a\u00a0transfer of\u00a0N60 million and a double inflow of\u00a0N130 million\u00a0and N139.5 million on November 4, 2021.<\/p>\n

On November 10,\u00a02021,\u00a0N25,134,000, flowed\u00a0in;\u00a0another N50 million, he said, \u00a0flowed in\u00a0on November 12, 2021and\u00a0N200 million\u00a0on\u00a0November 30,\u00a02021. The inflows, he said, continued on\u00a0December 1,\u00a02012\u00a0with\u00a0N220 million and\u00a0N16,008,000 on December 3, 2021.\u00a0On December\u00a022,\u00a02012, he said N40 million\u00a0flowed in\u00a0from the\u00a0same source.<\/p>\n

The witness\u00a0in his September 24, 2024 testimony also\u00a0admitted\u00a0that Kayless Nature Limited made a deposit of\u00a0N100 million to him\u00a0on\u00a0December\u00a021,\u00a02021 with the authorization of the second defendant.<\/p>\n

On December 22, 2021, another\u00a0N100 million, he said,\u00a0\u00a0flowed in from\u00a0Kayless\u00a0Nature Limited, and another\u00a0N60 million from the company on December 29, 2021.<\/p>\n

The financial traffic continued on the New Year.\u00a0According to him,\u00a0on January\u00a018,\u00a02022,\u00a0N40 million\u00a0flowed in and continued thereafter.\u00a0\u201cOn the 19th of January,\u00a02022,\u00a0I received\u00a0N50 million, while on the 24th,\u00a02022,\u00a0I received\u00a0N30 million, and on the 28 of that same January,\u00a02022,\u00a0I received\u00a0N40 million cash in four tranches, and another\u00a0N120 million.\u00a0On January 31, 2022, I received an inflow of\u00a0N160 million, while on February 1,2022,\u00a0I received\u00a0N110 million, and\u00a0N150 million on February 8, 2022,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He further disclosed that on\u00a0March 2,\u00a02022,\u00a0a total of N84 million\u00a0was deposited in his account\u00a0with another lodgment of\u00a0N122, 980,000\u00a0on March 10, 2022 and\u00a0N60 million\u00a0on March 21,\u00a02022.<\/p>\n

On April 5,\u00a02022, he stated that N150 million\u00a0flowed in and N140 million, a day after on\u00a0April\u00a06,\u00a02022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
