{"id":114510,"date":"2024-10-03T19:33:46","date_gmt":"2024-10-03T18:33:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=114510"},"modified":"2024-10-03T19:33:46","modified_gmt":"2024-10-03T18:33:46","slug":"court-summons-yahaya-bello-over-alleged-n110-4bn-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/court-summons-yahaya-bello-over-alleged-n110-4bn-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Court summons Yahaya Bello over alleged N110.4bn fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1811908555408731446\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama has issued a public summons against former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, ordering him to appear in court for his arraignment scheduled for October 24, 2024.<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nBello is to be arraigned alongside two co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, in connection with 16 fresh charges brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.<\/p>\n<p>The former governor had previously been declared wanted after Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja issued an arrest warrant against him on April 17.<\/p>\n<p>Bello is already facing 19 charges related to money laundering and misappropriation of N80.2 billion before Justice Nwite\u2019s court but has failed to appear for his arraignment on five separate occasions.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Maryanne Anenih, before whom the new charges have been filed, ruled on Thursday that Bello must present himself before the court to defend the latest allegations of criminal breach of trust involving N110.4 billion.<\/p>\n<p>The summons follows an application by the EFCC, which stated that it had been unable to serve Bello with the new charges filed on September 24.<\/p>\n<p>The EFCC claimed that Bello and his co-defendants misappropriated funds entrusted to them.<\/p>\n<p>In her ruling, Justice Anenih directed the EFCC to publish the public summons in a widely circulated newspaper and to paste copies of the summons at Bello\u2019s last known address and in visible locations within the court premises.<\/p>\n<p>Bello was expected to appear in court on Thursday for arraignment on the fresh charges, but his absence once again stalled the proceedings.<\/p>\n<p>The EFCC continues to pursue the case, which remains one of the most high-profile fraud allegations against a former governor in recent times.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Maitama has issued a public summons against former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, ordering him to appear in court for his&hellip;<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on wp_trim_excerpt --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":112841,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_lmt_disableupdate":"","_lmt_disable":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-114510","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-exclusive"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
