The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed the clearance of a member of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, over alleged culpable homicide.<\/div>\n

\nA three-member panel of justices of the appellate court led by Justice Adebukola Banjoko, dismissed the Kano State Government\u2019s appeal of a similar judgment of the Federal High Court for lack of merit.<\/p>\n

The Federal High Court in Abuja, in its judgement by Justice Donatus Okorowo in suit number: FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/714\/2019, agreed with the lawmaker that the charges amounted to an infringement on his fundamental human rights and restrained the Kano State Government from arresting, detaining, and prosecuting him and awarded the sum of N25 million as damages<\/p>\n

Doguwa had contended that the offences brought following the 2023 general elections violence in Kano under sections 126 and 128 of the Electoral Act, 2022 were investigated as federal offences and he was cleared of any wrongdoing by both the Kano High Court and the police.<\/p>\n

Reacting to the latest judgement, Doguwa, who represents Tudun Wada\/Doguwa Federal Constituency of Kano State, expressed confidence that the Nigerian judiciary remains the last hope of the common man.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cWe appreciate Allah for once again vindicating me and absolving me from the mischief of my political opponents.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to urge my people, especially at the constituency level to celebrate this victory by thanking Allah, SWT, and avoid a breach of law and order.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have also accepted all that happened in the course of this judicial tussle as an act of God and taking it as an opportunity to prepare me for greater leadership challenges that are coming.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
