{"id":115297,"date":"2024-11-24T06:01:58","date_gmt":"2024-11-24T05:01:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=115297"},"modified":"2024-11-24T06:01:58","modified_gmt":"2024-11-24T05:01:58","slug":"minimum-wage-nothing-has-changed-about-our-december-1-deadline-says-nlc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/minimum-wage-nothing-has-changed-about-our-december-1-deadline-says-nlc\/","title":{"rendered":"Minimum wage: Nothing has changed about our December 1 deadline, says NLC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1816526459009740310\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The National Labour Congress (NLC) says its December 1 deadline for all states to implement the new minimum wage still stands.<\/div>\n<div id=\"m#msg-f:1816526459009740310-content\" class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nOn July 29, 2024, President Bola Tinubu signed the minimum wage bill into law.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation increased the country\u2019s minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.<\/p>\n<p>On November 11, NLC announced November 30th as the deadline for all state governments to implement the new minimum wage for their workers.<\/p>\n<p>The union ordered its members to embark on an indefinite strike in states where the new minimum wage is yet to be implemented by the deadline.<\/p>\n<p>However, several states have signed the new minimum wage scheme into effect. Over 30 governors have agreed to set the lowest monthly salary for workers at N70,000 and above.<\/p>\n<p>Zamfara, Sokoto, Cross Rivers, and Nasarawa, among others, have yet to reach an agreement on improved payment for their workers.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nSpeaking on the deadline, Benson Upah, NLC spokesperson, said \u201cnothing has changed as per that directive\u201d despite the majority of the states implementing the new minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p>Upah in a text message said \u201cmajority is not everybody\u201d. adding that all states must heed the union\u2019s directive or \u201cwe\u2019ll carry out our threats\u201d.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Labour Congress (NLC) says its December 1 deadline for all states to implement the new minimum wage still stands.
