The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has said that the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, has been arrested.<\/div>\n

\nThe Head of Media and Publicity of the Commission, Mr Dele Oyewale confirmed Bello\u2019s arrest on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

He said that Bello was arrested by the commission\u2019s Chief Security office.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cIt is true that we have him in our custody. The operatives of the commission arrested him \u201c<\/p>\n

Pointblanknews.com gathered that Bello was still writing his statement as at the time of filing this report.<\/p>\n

However there are reports that the former Governor was arrested by the Commission over alleged misappropriation of funds after months of shunning invitation.<\/p>\n

The former Governor according to a source is being held at the commission\u2019s headquarters in Jabi, Abuja by a crack team of investigators<\/p>\n

Recall that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on April 18,\u00a0\u00a02024 declared the former governor wanted with subsisting warrant for arrest in connection with an alleged\u00a0 N80.2 billion money laundering charges.<\/p>\n

Bello decided to submitted himself to the anti draft agency today (Tuesday) after turning down their invitation for several months upon leaving office.<\/p>\n

It was learnt that the former governor went to the EFCC office with his lawyers without his successor, Governor Usman Ododo.<\/p>\n

The development follows the Supreme Court judgment which dismissed the case by some states governments on the constitutionality of the anti-graft agency.<\/p>\n

There were insinuations last week that he was going to visit the EFCC but the former governor\u2019s media aides did not respond to enquiries on the information.<\/p>\n

At the last hearing on November 14, the EFCC had sought for adjournment to tomorrow (November 27) in the fresh case it instituted against Bello, saying the 30-day window was still running for the summons earlier issued.<\/p>\n

The EFCC, however, admitted his co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, to administrative bail and prayed the court for extension of time for the 1st Defendant to appear, a development that led to Yahaya Bello making the invitation on Tuesday.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
