{"id":115677,"date":"2024-12-12T23:31:41","date_gmt":"2024-12-12T22:31:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=115677"},"modified":"2024-12-12T23:31:41","modified_gmt":"2024-12-12T22:31:41","slug":"adelabu-150mw-of-electricity-will-be-added-to-national-grid-before-year-end","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/adelabu-150mw-of-electricity-will-be-added-to-national-grid-before-year-end\/","title":{"rendered":"Adelabu: 150MW of electricity will be added to national grid before year end"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Adebayo Adelabu, minister of power, says Nigeria is on track to add 150 megawatts (MW) of electricity to its national grid before the year ends.<\/p>\n<p>Adelabu spoke to journalists after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu and German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, at the presidential villa in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said the upgrade will be made possible following the successful completion of the pilot phase of the presidential power initiative (PPI).<\/p>\n<p>Adelabu said the initiative, which is being implemented in partnership with Siemens, intends to enhance Nigeria\u2019s electricity supply through a series of strategic projects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that before the end of the year, an additional 150 megawatts will be added upon completion of the entire pilot phase.\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Adelabu outlined significant advancements in the country\u2019s energy sector, emphasising the crucial role of international collaboration, particularly with Germany.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a bilateral relationship with the Republic of Germany that focuses on energy and electricity support,\u201d the minister said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe name of the game now is about cooperation, collaboration, and partnership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Adelabu noted that the Siemens project is a flagship component of the partnership, aimed at implementing both brownfield and greenfield transmission substations under the PPI.<\/p>\n<p>The minister said since the agreement was signed in December 2023 during the 28th session of the United Nations climate change conference (COP 28) in Dubai, Nigeria has made significant progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have completed the pilot phase of this project up to 80%,\u201d he said<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nAccording to the minister, the pilot phase includes the importation and installation of 10 power transformers as well as 10 mobile substations \u2014 with eight already commissioned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe positive impact of this is that it has added nothing less than 750 megawatts to our transmission grid capacity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Adelabu said the next phase would involve revamping 14 existing substations and establishing 23 new ones across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe entire grid is quite fragile and dilapidated.
