{"id":115876,"date":"2025-01-06T05:55:56","date_gmt":"2025-01-06T04:55:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=115876"},"modified":"2025-01-06T05:55:56","modified_gmt":"2025-01-06T04:55:56","slug":"2027-were-yet-to-agree-on-a-merger-with-any-political-party-obi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/2027-were-yet-to-agree-on-a-merger-with-any-political-party-obi\/","title":{"rendered":"2027: We\u2019re yet to agree on a merger with any political party \u2013 Obi"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1820149281193128924\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in the 2023 elections, Mr. Peter Obi has said there was currently no merger agreement between the party and any other opposition party for a merger.<\/div>\n<div id=\"m#msg-f:1820149281193128924-content\" class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nObi spoke at a press conference on the state of the nation in Abuja, on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The former Anambra State Governor spoke against the backdrop of speculations that the LP had entered into a merger deal with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).<br \/>\nAlthough he didn\u2019t admit or deny the existence of merger talks, he was emphatic that there was \u201cno agreement yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He appealed to all lovers of Nigeria irrespective of political affiliation to unite because it was only in unity that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) whom he said has \u201cmismanaged\u201d the nation\u2019s resources can be defeated.<\/p>\n<p>Obi described Nigeria\u2019s security situation as unfortunate. He expressed sadness that Nigerians were needlessly being sent to their early graves on account of banditry, terrorism, and kidnapping-for-ransom.<\/p>\n<p>He also faulted the current administration\u2019s claims of fighting corruption.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nObi argued that the level of corruption in Nigeria remained high just as the cost of governance which has said has led to an astronomical increase in public debt.<\/p>\n<p>Obi stressed that the situation was worsened by the fact that government officials willfully mismanaged public funds in 2024 through incessant foreign travels.<\/p>\n<p>Recall that the LP candidate and his PDP counterpart, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar lost the 2023 presidential election to APC\u2019s Tinubu.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu won in 12 of Nigeria\u2019s 36 states, and also secured the enough votes in several other states to claim the highest number of votes \u2014 8,794,726, almost two million votes more than his closest rival \u2014 Atiku Abubakar of the PDP.<\/p>\n<p>Atiku, who has ran for the presidential seat a record six times, got 6,984,520 votes, while Obi, a first-time contestant, secured an unprecedented 6,101,533. NNPP\u2019s Rabiu Kwankwaso, former Kano State governor, finished fourth, claiming victory in his state \u2014 Kano.
