{"id":115887,"date":"2025-01-06T06:12:54","date_gmt":"2025-01-06T05:12:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=115887"},"modified":"2025-01-06T06:12:54","modified_gmt":"2025-01-06T05:12:54","slug":"saudi-arabia-releases-three-nigerian-ladies-after-10-months-in-jail-over-drugs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/other-news\/saudi-arabia-releases-three-nigerian-ladies-after-10-months-in-jail-over-drugs\/","title":{"rendered":"Saudi Arabia releases three Nigerian ladies after 10 months in jail over drugs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1820437848343323482\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Saudi Arabia has released three Nigerians who were earlier arrested and prosecuted in the country.<\/div>\n<div id=\"m#msg-f:1820437848343323482-content\" class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nIn a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the Acting-Spokesperson of the Ministry, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the release followed high-level diplomatic engagement between the Nigerian government and Saudi authorities.<\/p>\n<p>The three Nigerians namely:\u00a0Hadiza Abba, Fatima Malah and Fatima Gamboi\u00a0were arrested for alleged possession of substance suspected to be cocaine while on pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, they were arrested and prosecuted on March 5, \u00a02024 at Prince Mohammad bin Abdul Azeez International Airport Madinah, Saudi Arabia, and released after spending 10 months in detention.<\/p>\n<p>The statement said, \u201cThe arrest of the three women was a result of the earlier arrest of two Nigerian nationals who were found in possession of 80 capsules of Cocaine weighing 900.28 gm and 70 capsules of Cocaine weighing 789.5gm, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe women were detained by the Saudi authorities on suspicion of being accomplices and abating the trafficking of the banned substance found on the aforementioned arrested Nigerians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ministry wishes to recall that the trio\u2019s arrest attracted much attention in Saudi Arabia and Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir successful release was achieved after prolonged diplomatic and legal engagements, which culminated in their discharge and acquittal, as well as subsequent handover to the Consulate-General of Nigeria in Jedda.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ladies were received by Amb.
