The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, has denied claims by Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, that he issued threats against Obi\u2019s life and family.<\/p>\n
Describing the allegations as a \u201cself-evident malicious lie,\u201d Morka accused Obi of engaging in \u201cattention-seeking\u201d and \u201cemotional blackmail.\u201d<\/p>\n
The controversy stems from a post by Obi titled \u201cHave I Really Crossed the Line?\u201d shared on his X handle on Monday.<\/p>\n
In it, Obi alleged that Morka threatened him following his New Year criticism of President Bola Tinubu\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy New Year Message has now led to threats to my life, my family, and those around me. One Mr. Felix Morka has gone further to accuse me of \u2018crossing the line\u2019 and warned I will face consequences,\u201d Obi wrote.<\/p>\n
The claims were linked to Morka\u2019s remarks during an Arise TV interview, where he said, \u201cPeter Obi has crossed the line so many times and has what\u2019s coming to him; whatever he gets, he should manage it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reacting in a statement on Tuesday, Morka refuted the allegations, asserting that his words were misrepresented. He clarified that his comments were in response to a specific question about Obi\u2019s political rhetoric and did not imply any threat.<\/p>\n
\u201cNothing I said in that interview or elsewhere remotely constitutes a threat to Mr. Obi or anyone else,\u201d Morka stated.<\/p>\n
He emphasised that his remarks were directed at Obi\u2019s \u201cmalicious and irrational commentary\u201d and were part of a broader critique of the Labour Party candidate\u2019s political strategies.<\/p>\n
Morka cited his interview response: \u201cMr. Obi is shooting wildly like in the \u2018Wild West.\u2019 He is not being rational\u2026 Rather than understand why he lost the election, he thinks he can bring down the government with malicious deception. At this point, whatever he gets, he should manage it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The APC spokesman underscored his commitment to free speech, stating, \u201cWhile every Nigerian has the right to free speech, no one has the right to spread misinformation or falsehood. Democracy allows for disagreement and debate, but not the weaponisation of false narratives.\u201d<\/p>\n
