{"id":116009,"date":"2025-01-16T20:35:33","date_gmt":"2025-01-16T19:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=116009"},"modified":"2025-01-16T20:35:33","modified_gmt":"2025-01-16T19:35:33","slug":"six-nigerians-receive-us-highest-national-science-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/six-nigerians-receive-us-highest-national-science-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Six Nigerians Receive US Highest National Science Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"m#msg-f:1821421494238790516\" class=\"mail-message expanded\">\n<div class=\"mail-message-header spacer\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">United States President, Joe Biden, has honoured six outstanding Nigerians with the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).<\/div>\n<div id=\"m#msg-f:1821421494238790516-content\" class=\"mail-message-content collapsible zoom-normal mail-show-images \" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div class=\"clear\">\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nAwardees were among the 400 persons honoured by the US president.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nPECASE is the highest honour bestowed by the US government on outstanding scientists and engineers.<\/p>\n<p>It was established by former President Bill Clinton in 1996 and recognises scientists and engineers who show exceptional potential for leadership early in their research careers.<\/p>\n<p>The award also recognises innovative and far-reaching developments in science and technology.<\/p>\n<p>The awards were presented to them Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from the White House said this year\u2019s awardees are employed or funded by 14 participating government agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The six exceptional Nigerians are Azeez Butali, a Gilbert Lilly-endowed professor of diagnostic sciences, College of Dentistry, University of Iowa; Ijeoma Opara, associate professor of public health (social and behavioral sciences), Yale School of Public Health, Yale University; and Oluwatomi Akindele, postdoctoral researcher at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.<\/p>\n<p>Others are Eno Ebong, associate professor of chemical engineering, bioengineering, and biology at Northeastern University; Oluwasanmi Koyejo, assistant professor of computer science at Stanford University; and Abidemi Ajiboye, executive vice chair of the Case School of Engineering, department of biomedical engineering, Case Western Reserve University.<\/p>\n<p>President Bola Tinubu congratulated the Nigerian awardees, in a statement issued Thursday by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Tinubu said the recognitions underscore the ability of Nigerians to excel at home and on the global stage.<\/p>\n<p>The president said he looks forward to the honorees sharing their multidisciplinary expertise to benefit Nigeria\u2019s development efforts.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"mail-message-footer spacer collapsible\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Related Posts generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>United States President, Joe Biden, has honoured six outstanding Nigerians with the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE).
