{"id":116319,"date":"2025-02-10T09:31:02","date_gmt":"2025-02-10T08:31:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=116319"},"modified":"2025-02-10T09:31:02","modified_gmt":"2025-02-10T08:31:02","slug":"serap-sues-tinubu-over-unexecuted-n167bn-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/exclusive\/serap-sues-tinubu-over-unexecuted-n167bn-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"SERAP sues Tinubu over unexecuted N167bn projects"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"auto\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has taken legal action against President Bola Tinubu over his alleged failure to prosecute contractors who received over N167bn from 31 ministries, departments, and agencies for projects that were never executed.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit, filed last Friday at the Federal High Court in Lagos (suit number FHC\/L\/MISC\/121\/2025), also listed the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, as a respondent.<\/p>\n<p>This was detailed in a press release on Sunday titled, \u201cSERAP Sues Tinubu Over Failure to Prosecute Contractors in N167bn Project Fraud in MDAs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The release, signed by SERAP\u2019s Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, urges the court to compel Tinubu to direct the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, to publicly name the contractors involved and ensure their prosecution.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation is also seeking a court order mandating Edun to publish details of the projects, including their locations, the amounts received by each contractor, and the identities of the shareholders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe allegations of corruption involving these contractors have continued to impair, obstruct, and undermine the access of poor Nigerians to essential public goods and services,\u201d SERAP argued in its suit.<\/p>\n<p>According to SERAP, the 2021 Audited Report by the Auditor-General of the Federation, published on November 13, 2024, revealed that 31 MDAs collectively paid over N167 billion for projects that were never carried out.<\/p><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\nTinubu orders database clean-up as FG uncovers 6,000 Nigeriens with NIN<br \/>\nNotably, the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc. alone reportedly disbursed N100 billion to companies for unexecuted projects.<\/p>\n<p>Other MDAs implicated include:<br \/>\nNigerian Correctional Service<br \/>\nNational Pension Commission, Abuja<br \/>\nFederal College of Land Resources Technology, Owerri<br \/>\nHydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) Office<br \/>\nPetroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF)<br \/>\nFederal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development<br \/>\nFederal Medical Centre, Bida, Niger State<br \/>\nNational Centre for Women Development<br \/>\nInstitute for Peace and Conflict Resolution<br \/>\nNational Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB)<br \/>\nFederal University of Gashua<br \/>\nMinistry of Niger Delta Affairs<br \/>\nSERAP maintained that allowing companies and contractors to walk away with public funds unpunished amounts to a grave violation of the Nigerian Constitution, anti-corruption laws, and international obligations under the United Nations Convention against Corruption.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHolding these contractors accountable would help prevent waste, fraud, and abuse in public spending,\u201d SERAP stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe consequences of corruption are felt by citizens daily.
