The Peoples Democratic Party, on Wednesday, held its Southeast zonal congress in Enugu, reaffirming Ali Odefa as the Zonal Chairman.<\/p>\n
The congress, which took place at Michael Okpara Square, was attended by party delegates from the five Southeast states, alongside key stakeholders, including Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah and the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara.<\/p>\n
In his address, Mbah, the lone PDP governor in the zone, underscored the need for unity within the party.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we describe the PDP as a great party, it is not just a slogan. The party\u2019s strength lies in its ability to reinvent itself and maintain national appeal despite challenges,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He further emphasised the Southeast\u2019s historical support for the PDP, urging members to sustain the party\u2019s dominance in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe understand the expectations of our people in a democracy, and at the core of it is good governance. That has been the PDP\u2019s commitment since its inception,\u201d Mbah added.<\/p>\n
The congress saw all 22 zonal positions filled unopposed, with Hon. James Ugwu retaining his position as Zonal Secretary.<\/p>\n
Speaking on behalf of the newly elected executives, Odefa assured party members of their commitment to repositioning the PDP in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will not let you down. With this fresh four-year mandate, we will correct past mistakes and strengthen our party,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He also extended an olive branch to any aggrieved members, calling for collective efforts to build a stronger party.<\/p>\n
