{"id":116660,"date":"2025-03-05T11:38:03","date_gmt":"2025-03-05T10:38:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=116660"},"modified":"2025-03-05T11:38:03","modified_gmt":"2025-03-05T10:38:03","slug":"efcc-arrests-ex-akwa-ibom-governor-udom-emmanuel-for-alleged-n700bn-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/efcc-arrests-ex-akwa-ibom-governor-udom-emmanuel-for-alleged-n700bn-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"EFCC arrests ex-Akwa Ibom governor, Udom Emmanuel, for alleged N700bn fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, over an alleged N700 billion fraud.<\/p>\n<p>Emmanuel, who served as governor between 2015 and 2023, reportedly arrived at the EFCC\u2019s corporate headquarters in Abuja around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday following an invitation from the anti-graft agency.<\/p>\n<p>Emmanuel was reportedly detained after honouring the EFCC\u2019s invitation to answer allegations of money laundering, diversion of funds, and stealing.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">A source told Pointblank\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/news.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/news.com&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1741238931094000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2WB-OyByVHhS81SlqGu9qW\">news.com<\/a>, \u201cWe have arrested the former governor of Akwa Ibom over an alleged N700 billion fraud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA civil society organisation called the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking petitioned the EFCC, prompting our investigation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cThe petitioner alleged that Emmanuel received N3 trillion from the Federation Account over eight years but left behind a debt profile of N500 billion and unpaid ongoing projects worth N300 billion. He was also alleged to be unable to account for N700 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmmanuel arrived at our office around 12:30 p.m. and was arrested shortly after.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The source further said that investigations uncovered the withdrawal of N31 billion in cash from a single account named \u201cOffice of the Governor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cOur investigations have uncovered the withdrawal of N31bn in cash in one single account. The name of the account is Office of the Governor.
