{"id":117534,"date":"2025-04-17T15:43:43","date_gmt":"2025-04-17T14:43:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=117534"},"modified":"2025-04-17T15:43:43","modified_gmt":"2025-04-17T14:43:43","slug":"breaking-court-discharges-quadri-minor-who-blocked-obis-convoy-in-lagos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/breaking-court-discharges-quadri-minor-who-blocked-obis-convoy-in-lagos\/","title":{"rendered":"BREAKING: Court discharges Quadri, Minor Who Blocked Obi&#8217;s Convoy in Lagos"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>By Myke Agunwa<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>After months of detention , an Apapa Magistrate Court, Court 9 sitting at Orege, Ajegunle &#8211; Sikiru Adagun Courthouse, on Thursday, discharged and acquitted Alabi Quadri, the young supporter who courageously stood in front of the campaign train of the Presidential campaign of Peter Obi of Labour Party (LP) in 2023.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Quadri, charged with fighting and stealing, made his first court appearance on March 27, with the next hearing scheduled for April 28.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Eye witnesses reported that Quadri was abducted by two \u2018Area Boys\u2019 who are notoriously known in the community as Lege and Baba Waris close to his family residence at Amukoko, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area and dumped at the Amukoko Divisional Police Headquarters (Pako Police Station) in Lagos State.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>According to the witness, Quadri was returning from work when he was grabbed by the duo, who along with other jealous and entitled Area Boys in the community, have been harassing him and threatening to deal with him since 2023 for not giving them \u2018their share\u2019 of donations gifted him by Peter Obi and the Obidient family.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>It was gathered\u00a0 that the Baale of the community equally pressured them to buy a cow and rice and cook for the community to appease the Area Boys.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The police on 26th January, 2025 took Quadri before a Magistrate in Apapa, and obtained an order remanding him at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri on a trumped-up charge of armed robbery.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The police fraudulently joined Quadri with four strange adults who had no form of connection or relationship whatsoever with him and claimed that the four strange men were his case mates.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Recall that Mr. Obi, through the Obidient Movement, visited Quadri at the Kirikiri Medium Correctional Centre in Apapa, Lagos. During the visit, he connected with Quadri\u2019s mother and sister, standing in solidarity with the family and expressing unwavering support during this difficult time.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>He was however discharged and acquitted of conspiracy to commit felony and armed robbery.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The court held that he has no case to answer.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Quadri was brought to court on Thursday, April 17, 2025, after spending months in Kirikiri Prison, Lagos.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The Nigerian Correctional Service produced Quadri at the Apapa Magistrate Court, located at Orege, Ajegunle\u2014Sikiru Adagun Courthouse (Court No. 9).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Quadri&#8217;s case was initially slated for a hearing on April 28, 2025.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Effiong had revealed that both he and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) requested that the date be moved forward, and the court granted the application.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Giving an account of the genesis of Quadri\u2019s ordeal, Effiong revealed that it was not due to any major crime but rather a result of prolonged malice and resentment harboured by some self-acclaimed \u2018area boys\u2019 (thugs) in his neighbourhood.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>According to the lawyer, these individuals felt entitled to a portion of the unexpected attention and goodwill, including financial support, that Alabi received following his moment in the spotlight during the 2023 presidential campaign.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Effiong, who recently visited the Apapa Magisterial Court in Lagos alongside Alabi\u2019s mother and legal colleagues, stated that Alabi\u2019s journey to Kirikiri prison was not only heartbreaking but appeared to be the outcome of a vendetta fuelled by local \u2018area boys\u2019 who felt entitled to the financial support Alabi received after his viral moment.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Effiong revealed that Quadri was abducted in January near his home while returning from work by the \u2018area boys\u2019 who had been threatening him.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>They allegedly took him to Amukoko Police Station (popularly known as Pako Police Station) and accused him of being involved in street fights.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>However, Quadri was then arraigned before a Magistrate Court along with four other individuals, said to be complete strangers to him, on allegations of conspiracy to commit armed robbery with cutlasses.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>According to the charge sheet, the alleged victims were robbed of N579,000, comprising cash and four mobile phones.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Effiong also emphasised that despite being a minor, Alabi had been detained with adults at Kirikiri since January, pending legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Reacting to the development on his X handle, Effiong said, \u201cWe are excited to announce that Quadri Yusuf Alabi, the 17-year old teenager who gained fame during the 2023 elections after he spontaneously jumped and stood in front of the convoy of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, @PeterObi, , has been freed by the court today, 17th April, 2025.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cAt the Court today, the presiding Magistrate, His Honour, A. O. Olorunfemi (Mrs.), confirmed that the legal advice issued by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), of the Ministry of Justice, Lagos State, Dr. Babajide Martins showed that there was no evidence to substantiate the allegation of armed robbery against Quadri.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cIn his Legal Advice, the DPP recommended the non-prosecution of Quadri.
