{"id":117789,"date":"2025-04-22T17:29:16","date_gmt":"2025-04-22T16:29:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/?p=117789"},"modified":"2025-04-22T17:29:16","modified_gmt":"2025-04-22T16:29:16","slug":"lagos-unveils-number-plates-for-special-need-drivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pointblanknews.com\/pbn\/news\/lagos-unveils-number-plates-for-special-need-drivers\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos Unveils Number Plates for Special Need Drivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Daniel Adaji<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Lagos State has unveiled specially designed number plates for special need drivers, a move aimed at promoting inclusivity for persons with disabilities (PWDs).<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The initiative was announced by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing on Tuesday.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The announcement aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu&#8217;s administration\u2019s focus on making the state more accessible.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis initiative is part of our commitment to inclusivity under the THEMES Plus Agenda,\u201d Osiyemi stated.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">The new plates will help identify vehicles driven by PWDs, making it easier for authorities and the public to recognize their special needs. This step reflects the state&#8217;s ongoing effort to create a more inclusive environment.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the past year, the Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority (LSNPPA) produced over 218,000 standard number plates for both private and commercial vehicles. The authority also manufactures customized plates, including 716 fancy motor vehicle plates and 347 motorcycle plates.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Osiyemi explained that the special number plates for PWDs are a key component of the state government\u2019s inclusivity drive.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis initiative will give these drivers the recognition they deserve and further advance our commitment to accessible governance,\u201d he added.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">LSNPPA also issued significant replacements, including 11,152 standard plates and 212 motorcycle plate replacements. Additionally, 63 fancy plates, 428 official plates, 1,510 dealer plates, and 4,000 articulated vehicle plates were produced. This effort ensures the accuracy and availability of vehicle identification across Lagos.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Regarding the fading of number plates, Osiyemi assured that high-quality materials are used in production. However, he noted that fading may occur due to the corrosive nature of car cleaning agents.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cJust like humans, number plates have a lifespan, and they should be replaced when necessary,\u201d he emphasised.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">This announcement mirrors global efforts toward inclusivity, such as the United Nations World Food Programme&#8217;s initiative to support businesses owned by PWDs.<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">In 2024, The UN disclosed that, it is working to create more equitable opportunities through its procurement processes.
